The winner of the 2015 Order of Merit is
Last years Order of Merit trophy winner, Stefan Borys, has retained the coveted Order of Merit trophy in 2015.
Stefan started the season with a handicap of 13 and finished it on 6. In the season's opening event, the UGAGB President's Cup, Stefan retained the trophy he won the previous year with a score of 40 points, immediately cutting his handicap to 10. In the next event, he played to his new handicap scoring 36 points followed by a runners-up position in the third event, one point behind his dad Mick Borys, so reducing his handicap to a single figure.
The blip in Stefan's season came at Hallamshire in the season's fourth event where on a tough course, only 3 out of 17 players managed to score 30 points or more. But like any true champion, Stefan bounced back at the UGAGB Championship in Manchester, finishing runner-up and having his handicap reduced to a single figure once again.
In the season's pen-ultimate event, he maintained his single figure handicap which he took into the season's final event at Rotherham Golf Club where the UGAGB Open was played.
The final event proved to be a shoot-out for the Order of Merit trophy between Stefan and the UWGC Stableford World Champion, Paul Allen, with Stefan giving Paul 2 shots who was playing off 11. In the end, Stefan finished with the same score he started the season, 40 points, and in doing so, not only won the UGAGB Open but also finishing 2 points ahead of Paul on 182 to claim and retain the Order of Merit trpophy for 2015.
The good news for UGAGB members in 2016 is that he will start the season playing off a handicap of 6!
As predicted at the end of 2014, Stefan's name has featured 3 times in the UGAGB Hall of Fame in 2015 and will be there many more times in the years to come.
Stefan has definitely proved to be a worthy winner of the Order of Merit 2015.
